On this page you will find an index to any military history that we will be placing on the site.

The first military history research we carried out was with regard to “what my grandfather did in the war”. Cyril Crawford was captured at the battle of Kalamata in 1941 and this page follows his journey through 4 years as a POW in Austria.

We are now researching the names that appear on the Roll of Honour that is in the church at Morton. This is a memorial to the men of Morton and Hanthorpe that lost their lives in The Great War of 1914-1918.

Another piece of ongoing research is to find out how one of our Morton Ancestors ended up being caught up in the Napoleonic Wars. Known affectionately as “Uncle Ted” within the family, Edward Marvin fought with the 1st Foot Guards at Waterloo.

As with all our research each project can be seen as ongoing research so please keep checking for updates.
